I’m a little late getting the IPad, but I recently bought one and let me assure you that it is simply awesome for aviation applications. Here’s the apps I use regularly:
Foreflight:Easily the most important IPad App Iv’e used, Foreflight provides digital approach plates, enroute charts, VFR sectionals, AFD’s, and even online flight plan filing. I also have the Iphone4, so I also have all the plates for the entire US and Canada in two places in the cockpit. Translation…I’m completely digital in the cockpit now. NOAA charts are far more cumbersome. Jeppessen is far more expensive. I’d move directly to the IPadII and fully to the digital world if you have not done so otherwise.
AeroWeather: This is really handy for determining weather at various locations around the world.
MyRadar: This is the best radar app in my opinion.
FltPlan.com: I use FltPlan.com regularly, and they have a nice App so I can file flight plans and get flight information.
Flashlight: If you fly night, this app is a real safety factor.
The cost of an IPadII is about $700 and the subscription to Foreflight is about $80 per year.
