These guys have got a super product! When I first heard of JetShades I had visions of some weak, pathetic liner that was going to be suction-cupped up on the window. I envisioned a thin layer of film that knocked down some sun, but left the cockpit still warm and with me still needing sunglasses. Erase that vision…these shades are incredible!
I train about 120 pilots per year in the PA46, and this translates into my flying approach after approach after approach. And, all of those approaches are done at low altitude in a turbine, which translates into a VERY hot cockpit. In the Texas summer heat I can literally be dripping sweat after a training event, and that’s not because my client sucks as a pilot…it’s just hot. All of that changed with JetShades new optical quality polycarbonate materials (yes, they do have a patent on their product).
I got a set of JetShades that will fit the front four windows of most PA46’s. I use these shades on just about every training flight that starts and stops at KJSO. They are form-fitted with a small rubber-type edge that fits nicely in the window. There’s no suction cups, velcro, or sticky tape. The fit is the key. If you buy a set of JetShades and they don’t fit perfectly, JetShades will make adjustments to ensure the proper fit. When I place the shades in the airplane, the difference is instantly felt. I’m betting the cockpit temperature drops 10 degrees in the first few minutes, and then drops more soon there after. And, the best part is the reduction of UV rays. At the MMOPA Convention at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO in OCT 2018, JetShades was one of the most visited booths.
