Are the book numbers right for a Malibu? So many aircraft manufacturers these days make claims of performance capabilities that are somewhat stretched. However, the Malibu really does perform as-advertised. In this picture, I’m getting 208KTAS at FL220 with 15 GPH at a power setting of 28″MP and 2300RPM. This is a very normal power setting for me in cruise. Notice the engine temps are normal. I’ve got a Continental 550 and a 3-blade prop.
Basically, the airplane could continue like this for about another 7 hours and still have an IFR reserve. Is this a great airplane or what! Name any other airplane that can provide similar performance while providing pressurized comfort to 6 people. I just do not think it exists. To get 208 KTAS for only 15GPh is simply amazing. This is why those who are informed and want a true cross country performer love the Malibu!
